SUSTAINABILITY
Our professional staff includes LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professionals that are well versed and professionally involved in "building green". To obtain a LEED® certification a project must include within its design a certain number of attributes from a categorized list. But facility and infrastructure owners can always include green building components into their projects even if they choose not to pursue a formal certification. The price tag of a green building or infrastructure project may increase the initial investment depending on the extent of the effort; but if life cycle costs are considered, green facilities will save energy and cost less to operate. Sometimes even the smallest features can make very big differences.
Sustainable, or green, design decreases a facility’s consumption of raw materials in construction by focusing on significant use of recycled or sustainable materials. Over the lifetime operation of a building or infrastructure, overall lifetime costs can be minimized while lifespan and investment return is increased.
Studies have shown that the vitality and productivity of building occupants can be improved through a healthy indoor environment. Simple sustainable design methods like daylighting and low-VOC paints help building occupants feel a greater sense of well-being. This can lead to decreased sick days for educators and employers.
The growing trend is for leaders and facility owners to make decisions that improve the future, and Hurst-Rosche is determined to help our clients take advantage of the added value brought to the table in sustainable design.
