Southern Illinois University Carbondale

Construct/Renovate Athletic Facility    Upgrading the Athletic Facility is a multi-phased project spanning several years in duration.  Phase I will replace approximately 21,000 square feet of multi-purpose flooring in the Arena; replace approximately 73,300 square feet of synthetic outdoor track surface in McAndrew Stadium; installation of new lighting in McAndrew Stadium, converting locker rooms into dressing rooms for the volleyball team in Davies Gymnasium; and installation of new laundry facilities in the Arena.  Gymnasium heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems are being evaluated and modified as required to maintain the room environment within strict manufacturer specified limitations for floor installations.

Remove/Install New Running Track    The SIU-Carbondale project consisted of removal of the existing surface, milling a portion of the base mat, then placing new asphalt and a new running surface.  The surface that the University selected was a ½” synthetic surface called Mondo which was delivered to the project site in rolls.  Glue is placed on the asphalt base and the Mondo is unrolled and tacked in place.  This same material was installed in Atlanta for the 1996 Olympic Games.  SIUC chose this surface because they wanted the lanes to be alternating colors.  The colors selected were maroon, dark gray, and light gray, which are the school colors.
