Ramsey Elementary
This project was funded through the Illinois School Construction Grant Program and includes 8 classrooms a gymnasium and the required support spaces. In conjunction with the building addition portions of the existing elementary school were renovated to provide the necessary administrative space.
A major challenge on this project arose due to the school district’s desire to construction the addition between their existing elementary and high school buildings which were constructed during different time periods were of different architectural styles and constructed of masonry in different colors. The solution was a design that includes a rich collection of materials and textures that compliment both of the existing structures and allow the new addition to become the primary face of the building and act as the main entry points for the campus.
Exterior materials include brick, ground face CMU and cast stone with aluminum storefront and windows. The structure is load bearing masonry walls with open web steel joists and steel roof deck. Interior finishes include vinyl composition tile flooring, carpet tile, ceramic tile tile, suspended gypsum board and suspended acoustical tile ceilings.
