The six million dollar Rend Lake Resort and associated recreational facilities is a complete destination getaway. The multi-phased project has changed the face of Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park. Completed work includes a full-service restaurant/banquet center with outdoor dining decks and direct access from boat slips. For activities within the complex, there is an outdoor pool, playground and tennis court. Guests may select rental units from large three-room cabin units with private decks to one or two level townhouse style guest units built on the water’s edge with private decks over the water. All facilities are immediately accessible to boat docks and there is even a lakeside convenience center for boaters who don’t wish to leave the water. Nearby campgrounds were totally rehabilitated to reflect the new modern conveniences of the park.

Facilities designed and waiting to begin construction are a complete sailboat harbor with jib cranes, secure overnight parking and a fully-developed swim beach. Each area provides shelters for gatherings of all types.

The Hurst-Rosche Engineers, Inc./Design Architects, Inc. team provided all architectural, engineering, fire alarm system, interior and landscape design as well as construction administration and testing services.

Hurst-Rosche has been retained to physically upgrade a major urban park nestled between a major public housing complex, Touchette Regional Hospital, Centreville City Hall and the Civic Center, and adjoining neighborhoods. The park consists of 21 acres of open space for recreational sports (baseball, track and field, tennis, basketball and football), picnic area and bird sanctuary, and an outdoor grass amphitheater for public concerts. The project will renew trees and shrubs, improve sports facilities, improve crowd control, more clearly define "passive areas," and upgrade children’s play areas.

Hurst-Rosche has designed renovations to the tennis courts to include regrading the area around the perimeter of the tennis courts to provide positive drainage away from the courts and toward stormwater drains and paved areas. Also included is the cutting out of deteriorated areas of the existing asphalt paving on the courts; providing new compacted subbase; installing "Petromat" binding fabric over all patched areas; resurfacing the court with tapered bituminous asphalt to provide positive drainage off the courts; installing new rubberized court surfacing; reapplying court lines; and reinstalling net standards, fence posts, and other appurtenances that were removed to facilitate court renovation.

Other work involved minor site work at the building project site and additional site work on an adjacent site. The project also consisted of the construction of a new building, along with mechanical and electrical systems commensurate with the project. Site work included paving demolition, paving improvements, athletic pavement repairs, fencing, playground equipment, and other minor site improvements.
