HVAC Projects
Shawnee Correctional Center
Upgrade Hot Water Distribution System
Hurst-Rosche completed design, preparation of contract documents,
and construction observation for project consisting of new boiler plants,
building support systems, site utility and heating water piping. The work
consisted of converting high-temperature hot water with heat exchangers to
individual boilers in each building.

New Jersey Community High School

Jerseyville, IL
Provide all Architectural / Engineering and construction administration
services for a 220,000 square foot facility. This project includes an
auditorium that seats approximately 400 persons. The middle “T” shaped
classroom wing with curved front façade includes 45 classrooms, media
center, study hall lecture room, and computer labs, and audio / video lab,
cafeteria, full service kitchen, multi-purpose room, two large gymnasiums
with two courts each, a multi-purpose room, weight room, locker rooms,
administration and guidance blocks, and all related storage and faculty
spaces.
Site development includes new physical education fields, new running
track, six new tennis courts, and segregated student and faculty
parking lots. This project includes a fire alarm and sprinkler system.

Salem Armory
Boiler and piping replacement
Marion County, IL
The Salem Armory is a 30,800 square foot, one story building
constructed in 1938. The project included the replacement of the
existing single boiler with copper modular boilers and all domestic
hot water, plumbing, piping and fixtures, including related asbestos
abatement.
Construction Cost $800,000.

Mid-America Airport Passenger Terminal
St. Clair County, IL
This passenger terminal, located in Mascoutah, Illinois near Scott Air
Force Base, is comprised of approximately 53,000 square feet. The project
consisted of architectural, engineering, and interior designing of the
terminal facility, lighting and electrical systems, heating and ventilating
systems, finish grading adjacent to the building, lightning arrestor system,
fire alarm system, two baggage handling systems, two aircraft passenger
loading bridges, specifications of material testing for quality assurance
during construction, and the fixtures, furniture and equipment (FF&E).

Geothermal heating and cooling
Fairfield, IL
Geothermal heating and cooling system with 50-200 foot of vertical walls
and conventional HVAC systems. Project also included new windows,
electrical distribution system and asbestos abatement.

Building automation system
Hillsboro, IL
Provided all engineering design services for installing a new computer
controlled HVAC & fire alarm system together with fiber optic cables.

Robinson, IL
Hurst-Rosche completed design and construction administration for
installation of a new chiller and a new hydronic piping system connected
to underline water source heat pumps and modular copper boilers.
Construction Cost $400,000.

Grafton Elementary School
Jerseyville, Illinois
Provided A/E services for the design and construction of a new elementary
school consisting of 47,000 square feet of space. The design is unique in the
fact that the classrooms are on two floors with an elevator for handicap
accessibility. The building has a large circular lobby area,
reception area, offices, conference room and large nurses office. It also
has a cafeteria, library, music room, computer lab and gymnasium and 14
classrooms with an additional 10 classrooms on the second floor with
faculty area, art room and restrooms. This project included fire alarm,
paging system, and fire sprinkler system.

Boiler replacement / HVAC upgrades

Prepared plans, specs and provided construction administration for removal
and replacement of existing boiler and provided new modular boilers and
equipment to supply required ventilation air requirements.

Health/Life Safety HVAC improvements

Provided required ventilation and heating systems to satisfy Health/Life
Safety violations. Included terminal equipment, control, electrical,
structural reinforcing, new boilers, pumps and tie-ins.

All architectural/engineering and construction administration services
related to replacement of a domestic plumbing system, heating system,
and miscellaneous architectural damaged areas. Work included lead abatement,
asbestos abatement, painting and other finishes, as well as door
replacements, window repairs, etc.

Litchfield Armory
Renovate interior and exterior
Litchfield, IL
All A/E work associated with design, preparation of construction
documents, bidding, construction administration and observation for
project consisting of the provision of a new steam boiler system, hot
water storage tank, and storm water pumping station; and replacement of
terminal heating devices, and associated piping, plumbing components and
piping for renovation of shower rooms, entrance doors, door hardware, metal
lockers, floor tile, ceiling tile, and accordion partition. Project also
included installation of masonry walls, windows, and doors; painting;
tuck-pointing; and minor electrical work. The work also included related
asbestos abatement associated with the project.

East Alton-Wood River CHSD 14
H/L/S and misc. improvements
Wood River, IL
Hurst-Rosche Engineers provided Engineering/Architectural services
pertaining to design bidding and periodic construction observation to
replace the existing steam heating system in the main & south buildings.
Existing steam boilers will be replaced with new hot water boilers. Work
will be bid as a single construction contract for the heating work. Another
contract will be administered for asbestos abatement in the boiler room.
Existing steam & condensate return piping covered with asbestos will
be abandoned in place.

Capitol Building
Chiller study
Springfield, IL
Hurst-Rosche completed an evaluation of the primary and secondary
chilled water system at the State Capitol Building for use as a backup
for the new state library building.

Centennial Building
Replace absorption chillers
Springfield, IL
Hurst-Rosche prepared plans, specifications and cost estimated necessary
for the installation of three 300-ton chillers along with pumps, piping and
valves. Also included in this project was the installation of
electrical controls and panels. The project included construction
observation, testing and balancing of the new systems.

Murray Developmental Center
Replace cooling towers and support beams
Centralia, IL
The cooling towers and steel support beams were deteriorated to the
point of failure. Hurst-Rosche replaced the cooling towers with
new field erected towers, including new structural steel support
systems, new piping and electrical connections, and new chemical
feed systems.

Humidification and coil change out
Springfield, IL
This project included the design of a new humidification system for four
air handling units; evaluating and making recommendations concerning
modifications to existing temperature controls to eliminate coil freeze-up;
providing engineering services as relating to coil change out and air mixing
equipment; and providing bid documents and administering construction
for all of the above tasks.
